Ingredients:

  • 1 lb bag dried pinto beans , soaked overnight in water to cover.
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 heaping tbsp chili powder
  • 1/2 lb smoked bacon

Directions:

  1. Drain the beans. Add the drained beans to a large saucepan and cover with fresh cold water. Bring the water just to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the beans until tender. Drain the beans well.
  2. Saute onions with the bacon until onions are done and bacon cooked.
  3. To the drained beans in the saucepan, add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Heat over medium low heat ( with lid) until the flavors are blended and the mixture is hot throughout approximately 1 hour.
