Grandma's Peanut Brittle

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 pint water
  • 1 lb peanuts
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. In a heavy 2 quart saucepan, over medium heat, bring to a boil sugar, vanilla and water.
  2. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
  3. Stir in peanuts.
  4. Set candy thermometer in place, and continue cooking. Stir frequently until temperature reaches 300 degrees F (150 degrees C), or until hardens when dropped in water.
  5. Remove from heat; immediately stir in baking soda.
  6. Pour immediately onto cookie sheet.
  7. Lift and pull peanut mixture( I do this with 2 forks) into rectangle about 14x12 inches.
  8. Let cool.
  9. Snap candy into pieces.
