Grandma Nita's Sheath Cake

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup margarine or 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup margarine or 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 tbsp cocoa
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 (16 oz) box powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Sift flour, add sugar into large mixing bowl.
  3. In sauce pan, add margarine, shortening, cocoa and water. Bring to a boil.
  4. Pour hot mixture over flour, and then add sugar. Mix well.
  5. Add buttermilk, vanilla, cinnamon, salt, baking soda, and eggs. Mix well.
  6. Pour batter onto well greased cookie sheet (15 1/2 x 10 1/2).
  7. Bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees.
  8. Now we make the frosting.
  9. 5 minutes before cake is done, combine and bring to a boil in a sauce pan: margarine, cocoa, and milk.
  10. Remove from heat. Add vanilla, and powdered sugar.
  11. Beat until smooth.
  12. Spread over cake while hot. Enjoy!
