Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp vinegar

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Grease and flour 8-inch square or 9-inch round baking pan
  3. In large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt
  4. Add water, oil, vinegar, and vanilla
  5. Beat with spoon or wire whisk just until batter is smooth and ingredients are well blended
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan
  7. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean
  8. Cool in pan
