Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350-degrees F.
  2. Grease and flour 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  3. Blend sugar and cocoa in saucepan.
  4. Stir in water.
  5. Simmer over med.
  6. -lowheat, stirring until smooth.
  7. Simmer for 3 minutes.
  8. Cool.
  9. Cream butter or margaine in large bowl until fluffy.
  10. Beat in sugar and eggs.
  11. Blend in vanilla.
  12. Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
  13. Add sifted ingredients alternately with milk to creamed mixture.
  14. Fold in chocolate chips.
  15. Pour 1/3 of batter into pan.
  16. Divide remaining batter in half.
  17. Mix one portion (one half of remaining batter) into cocoa mixture with baking soda.
  18. Spoon over batter in pan.
  19. Top with remaining (1/3 of original batter) batter.
  20. Bake for 65-75 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
