Buttermilk Doughnuts

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tbsp shortening
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Combine first 5 ingredients in a large bowl; beat till smooth.
  2. Sift dry ingredients and add to buttermilk mixture, stirring well.
  3. Chill for one or more hours.
  4. Turn onto floured surface and roll out to 3/8 think; cut w/ floured cutter.
  5. Heat oil to 375 degrees and fry doughnuts until golden brown (approx 1 min on each side).
  6. Drain well on paper towels.
  7. If desired, toss in bag w/ powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar, or ice w/ chocolate frosting.
