Blueberry Blackberry Spice Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 10 oz blueberries (2 cups)
  • 12 oz blackberries (2 1/2 cups)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick
  • 1 whole clove
  • 1 green cardamom pod (optional)

Directions:

  1. Bring berries, sugar, water, spices, and a pinch of salt to a boil in a heavy medium saucepan, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until fruit is very soft, about 30 minutes. Strain thourough a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing gently on and then discarding solids. Cool, then chill, covered.
