Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar.
  2. Add egg and vanilla.
  3. Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg; add to the creamed mixture.
  4. Stir in apples and nuts if desired.
  5. Spoon into a greased 8-in. square pan.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  7. Serve warm.
  8. Yield: 9 servings.
