Ingredients:

  • note: this recipe does not call for the apples to be halved but i sometimes do and i place the halves in the baking dish and fill the centers with jam.
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg or cinnamon
  • 1 to 1-1/2 cups red wine
  • note: if you don't want to use red wine then apple juice, white grape juice or cranberry juice are great substitutes.
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:

  1. Place apples in a buttered baking dish.
  2. Fill each apple center with jam.
  3. Blend sugar and nutmeg/cinnamon and stir in wine and vanilla.
  4. Pour over apples and cover.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 1 hour.
  6. Refrigerate for 2 to 4 hours before serving.
  7. Serve with either whipped cream, custard or vanilla ice cream.
