  1. Cream shortening in a large mixing bowl; gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating well. Add eggs, and beat well. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and spices in a small mixing bowl; gradually add to creamed mixture, stirring well. Stir in next 4 ingredients, mixing well.
  2. Press mixture into a greased 15- x 10- x 1-inch jellyroll pan. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes. Cool; sprinkle with powdered sugar, and cut into 2- x 1-inch bars.
