Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 4 -5 tbsp cold water
  • 3/4-1 cup sugar , depending on apple type
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425.
  2. Combine flour and salt in bowl.
  3. Cut in shortening thoroughly.
  4. Sprinkle in water, 1 T at a time until dough almost cleans the sides of bowl.
  5. Gather dough into ball and divide into 2 flattened rounds.
  6. With floured rolling pin, roll dough 2 inches longer than inverted pie pan.
  7. Fold crust into quarters and slide bottom layer onto pie pan.
  8. Combine sugar, cornstarch, and spices.
  9. Toss with apples, and spoon into pie crust.
  10. Seal with top crust and bake for 40-45 minutes.
