Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup cooked rice
  • 250 g raw rice
  • 1-1/2 cup water (add till the batter is in a creamy flowing consistency)
  • 3 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp yeast
  • salt to taste

Directions:

  1. How to make Appam:
  2. • Soak raw rice for about 4 hours and drain.
  3. • Blend with cooked rice and grated coconut in a mixie.
  4. • Mix sugar, yeast and salt in lukewarm water(If water is toohot yeast will die). Leave it for half an hour.
  5. • Add this mixture to the above grinded mixture.
  6. • Leave the mixture for fermentation for 8 hours.
  7. • Spread this fermented mixture (1 ladle)in a non-stick pan.
  8. • Put a lid on the pan and heat it for 2 minutes.
  9. • Appam is ready. Serve it with potato curry.
