Ingredients:

  • 1 1/3 cup. all purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup. water, warm
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp yeast
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • filling
  • 1/4 cup. butter
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • topping
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Sifting the flour. Add to the yeast, salt, and sugar.
  2. Beat the egg and water and mix quickly into the dry ingredients.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
  4. Knead the butter into the dough until soft and smooth.
  5. Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise for one hour or until doubled in size.
  6. For the filling, cream the butter and sugar.
  7. Add the coconut and mix well. Next add in the milk.
  8. After the dough has finished rising the first time, divide it into 6 oval portions.
  9. Roll out dough to 1/2 to3/4 inch rounds. Add a portion of filling inside. Wrap dough around filling. .
  10. Gently roll the dough into a tube shape. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  11. Let roll rise a second time for 15 minutes.
  12. For the topping, cream the sugar and butter and then mix in the flour.
  13. Make 2 stripes of the topping on each roll and then brush with the beaten egg.
  14. Bake at 400 degress for 15-20 minutes
