Amish Friendship Banana Nut Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4 large ripe bananas
  • 2 cups amish friendship bread starter* (see footnote for recipe url)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325*. Grease 2 - 9x5 loaf pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mash together the shortening and the bananas, then stir in the ingredients up to and including the walnuts.
  3. Sift together the remaining ingredients.
  4. Fold into the banana mixture.
  5. Divide batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool loaf on racks for 10 minutes, then remove loaf from pan. Set on racks to cool completely.
