Yeasty Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 1 (1/4 oz) package yeast
  • 2 tbsp warm water
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Directions:

  1. Dissolve yeats in warm water.
  2. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar in large bowl.
  3. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  4. Add buttermilk and yeast mixture.
  5. Knead.
  6. Roll 1/2 think.
  7. Cut into biscuits.
  8. Bake on greased cookie sheet for 15 minutes at 400 degrees.
