  1. Cream butter in a large mixing bowl; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add 4 cups flour alternately with 1 cup milk, beginning and ending with flour. Add 3 eggs and cinnamon, beating well.
  2. Dissolve baking powder and soda in remaining 1/2 cup milk; add to creamed mixture, mixing well. Stir in orange rind, juice, and remaining 2 cups flour, mixing well.
  3. Pour batter into a well greased 10-inch Spring form pan. Outline the date of the New Year on top of cake using whole cloves and pushing stems into batter. Generously sprinkle entire surface of cake with sesame seeds. Outline cloves with whole almonds. Place remaining almonds around outside edge of cake top.
  4. Combine egg and 1 teaspoon milk; beat well. Brush top of cake with egg mixture. Bake at 250° for 2 1/2 hours or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 20 minutes. Remove sides of pan. Cool completely before slicing.
