Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Slice bread about 1/2 inch thickness.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread and lay the slices side by side.
  3. Place a slice of cheese on each piece of bread.
  4. Layer the sliced tomatoes and onions on one slice over the cheese.
  5. Place the ham over the onions.
  6. Sprinkle with granulated garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Close with the other slice of bread with cheese and gently press down.
  8. Butter the outside of the sandwich with remaining butter before placing on the cooking apparatus.
  9. If you are using a frying pan or griddle, preheat to medium-high heat.
  10. Place the prepared sandwich on the pan or griddle, then place a small plate on top of the sandwich and then add some weight to the plate (at least a 1 pound bag of legumes) so that the sandwich compacts while cooking.
  11. Cook for about 4 minutes, then turn over and replace the plate and weight and continue to cook for another 3 to 4 minutes or until the cheese begins to ooze out of the sandwich.
  12. If you are using a cheese sandwich grill or a George Foreman grill, then all you do is place the sandwich in the grill, close the cover and let cook until done.
  13. Serve with some sliced dill pickles and a bowl of soup of your choice and a glass of wine if desired (red or white).
