Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch (about 3 lb) turnip greens
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3/4 tsp sugar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • hot sauce (optional)

Directions:

  1. Cut off and discard tough stems and discolored leaves from greens. Wash greens thoroughly in cold water several times; drain slightly. Set aside.
  2. Sauté onion in oil in a large Dutch oven until tender. Add greens, sugar, salt, and pepper. Cover and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, 1 1/2 hours or until greens are tender. Serve with hot sauce, if desired.
