Ingredients:

  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup butter ( do not substitute!)
  • 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp lemon peel

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Melt butter in a 7 x 11-inch shallow baking dish.
  3. Sift together dry ingredients; add milk and stir well.
  4. Pour this mixture into the baking dish.
  5. Do not stir.
  6. Top with peaches, including juice.
  7. Combine nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar and lemon peel together in a small bowl.
  8. Sprinkle this over peaches, but do not stir.
  9. Bake in 350-degree oven 40 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm with cream or vanilla bean ice cream.
  11. Serves 6 to 8.
  12. A surprise cobbler batter rises to the top during cooking and forms a golden crust
