Ingredients:

  • 1 2/3 cups water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp yeast

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients to make a smooth elastic dough.
  2. Let rise until double. Punch down.
  3. Divide dough into four parts. Divide each part into three pieces.
  4. Make a 1-2 inch hole in center of each piece.
  5. Pull gently all the way around to form circles.
  6. Heat 2 qts water and 2 TBSP sugar to boiling.
  7. Place a few bagels at a time in boiling water.
  8. Simmer 3 minutes, turning once.
  9. Remove with slotted spoon.
  10. Place on greased cookie sheet.
  11. Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Remove from cookie sheet and cool.
