Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 egg yolk (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Cream together butter, sugar, egg and vanilla. Add the flour and baking powder.
  3. Chill dough several hours or overnight. If too stiff to work with, allow to be at room temperature for about an hour or so.
  4. Roll thin (about 1/8 inch thick). Cut with Christmas cookie cutters.
  5. Put onto greased cookie sheet.
  6. Brush with egg yolk (this is optional).
  7. Bake for about 8 minutes.
  8. NOTE: Phyllis frosts her cookies with colored frosting made with confectioners' sugar and water (not too thick though!).
