Old Fashioned Raisin Bars

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp clove
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)

Directions:

  1. Boil raisins and water; remove from heat and add shortening and soda to melt.
  2. Add dry ingredients and nuts.
  3. Spread on cookie sheet and bake 20 minutes at 375°F.
  4. If desired, top with a thin powdered sugar icing. Cut into bars.
