Old-Fashioned Egg Custard Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie shells
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp fresh ground nutmeg , plus more for garnish
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl stir together the eggs, sugar, salt, and nutmeg until well blended.
  3. Gradually stir in the milk, half and half, and vanilla; mix well.
  4. Pour the custard into the unbaked pie crust.
  5. Sprinkle the custard with the additional nutmeg.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350° and bake for 35 minutes more, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean; watch the pie crust edges; cover to prevent overbrowning.
  7. Allow the pie to cool completely, then refrigerate until ready to serve.
