Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Make your dough ahead of time and place 1/2 of your dough into the pie pan.
  3. Mix all of the ingredients above in a large bowl except for the butter.
  4. Pour apple mixture into the pie pan over the dough and add place the butter over the apples.
  5. Mound your apples higher in the center of the pie pan.
  6. Cover the apples with the pie dough and cut off excess dough that hangs over the edge of the pan.
  7. Roll the excess dough out and make leaves, ball (berries) or any other shapes you like.
  8. Fold the dough down into the edge of the crust, making sure it binds to the bottom crust and gently brush the milk with a pastry brush over the surface of the pie dough.
  9. Add your leaves or other decorations and brush with milk. If you like a sweet flavored crust, you can sprinkle the top dough with a small amount of sugar. I do not advise sprinkling with cinnamon alone as cinnamon can taste bitter if not combined with sugar first.
  10. Make three slits in the middle of the pie with a sharp knife.
  11. Place in oven and bake at 450 for 10 minutes. If you did not preheat your oven, then back at 450 for 15 minutes.
  12. Turn heat down and bake at 350 for 40-45 more minutes.
  13. Serve up a slice of this pie with some freshly made vanilla ice cream or a large dollop of whipped cream.
