Mom's Famous Chocolate Cake With Fudge Frosting

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 5 tbsp cocoa
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 cup sour milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 lb powdered sugar , unsifted
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 6 tbsp butter or 6 tbsp margarine, softened

Directions:

  1. Cake:.
  2. Boil water, butter, shortening and cocoa in a medium saucepan until all of the shortening is melted.
  3. Add sugar, sifted flour and soda.
  4. Add eggs, sour milk and vanilla.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Put in a 9x13 cake pan.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
  8. Frosting:.
  9. Mix powdered sugar, cocoa and salt thoroughly.
  10. Add vanilla and boiling water; stir until smooth.
  11. Add soft butter and stir until smooth.
  12. You can frost the cake while it is still warm, but don't cut the cake until the frosting has had time to set up into fudgey goodness.
