Ingredients:

  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. Mix flour and sugar and cut in shortening.
  2. Beat eggs slightly and add to mixture.
  3. Add baking powder, salt, vanilla and milk.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Roll dough (small pieces at a time) to about 1/4 -inch thick.
  6. Cut strips and twist dough like pretzels, or use cookie cutters and cut out desired shapes.
  7. Add sugar sprinkles before baking if desired.
  8. Bake in a preheated 375 degree F oven for about 15 minutes.
  9. Cool 5 minutes, remove to rack and cool completely.
  10. NOTE: My guess is you could sprinkle with confectioner's sugar after baking.
