Mackinac Island Old-Fashioned Chocolate Fudge

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. Combine milk and chocolate in a medium size heavy saucepan;.
  2. Cook over low heat until chocolate is melted.
  3. Add sugar, corn syrup and salt,.
  4. Cook, stirring constantly, to boiling.
  5. Cook, without stirring to 234 degrees F. on a candy thermometer. (A teaspoon of syrup will form a soft ball when dropped into cold water).
  6. Remove from heat at once.
  7. Add vanilla and butter but do NOT stir in .
  8. Cool mixture in pan to 110 degrees F., or until lukewarm.
  9. Beat with wooden spoon until mixture thickens and begins to lose its gloss. (This will take about 15 minutes.).
  10. Spread in a buttered 8-inch x 8 inch x 2 inch pan.
  11. Let stand until set and cool.
  12. Cut into squares.
