Ingredients:

  • 1 (1/4 oz) package yeast
  • 1 cup water , lukewarm
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 lb margarine
  • 5 -6 cups flour
  • 1 medium onion
  • to taste salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Dough: Pour yeast into water.
  2. Set aside. Scald milk, then add sugar, salt and margarine. Cool.
  3. Add egg to mixture, then flour.
  4. Mix thoroughly, then knead until smooth. Let rise until double.
  5. Filling: Brown meat in skillet. Season and set aside. Pour 1/4 cup oil into a kettle. Shred cabbage and onion and saute in kettle until transparent. Stir often.
  6. Roll dough 1/4-inch thick and cut into 4-inch squares.
  7. Place a heaping tablespoon of filling on each square. Bring edges together and pinch.
  8. Place smooth side up in greased pan.
  9. Let rise 20 to 30 minutes.
  10. Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes or until nice and brown.
