Ingredients:

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 envelope yeast (or 2 1/2 tsp)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 1/4 cup warm milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

Directions:

  1. Mix the yeast into the warm milk and stir in a tsp of the 1/4 cup of sugar. Allow it to sit for a few minutes. Make a well in the flour in a large bowl.
  2. Pour remainder of sugar into well, the egg, butter, vanilla and the yeast mixture. Mix until doughy. Add flour as you need it.
  3. Allow the dough to rise under a damp cloth and in a warm spot for 1 and 1/2 hours.
  4. Divide dough into 2 pieces.
  5. Mix the cinnamon and brown sugar together. Brush the dough with the butter and roll the dough around in the sugar mixture.
  6. Allow to rise again for another 45 minutes.
  7. Grease two loaf pans, and my trick is to flour them like you would a cake pan.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  9. Brush the tops with butter and score with a knife.
  10. Bake for 30 minutes or until hollow sounding when knocked upon.
