Grandma's Banana Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 3 -4 mashed bananas (the riper they are the better!)
  • 5 tbsp sour milk (to quickly, add enough milk to 1 tsp vinegar to make 1 cup, let stand 5 minutes)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup nutmeats (optional)

Directions:

  1. Cream sugar and shortening together.
  2. Add bananas and egg; mix thoroughly.
  3. Add baking soda to sour milk.
  4. Add to batter and mix thoroughly.
  5. In separate bowl, combine flour and salt.
  6. Add to mixture and mix well.
  7. If desired, flour nutmeats before adding.
  8. Pour into two greased loaf pans.
  9. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 40-50 minutes or until tests done.
  10. So yummy with a glass of milk!
