Ingredients:

  • 1 2/3 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350.
  2. Grease and flour two 9 round layer cake pans or one 13 x9 pan.
  3. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs until fluffy.
  4. Beat 5 minutes at high speed.
  5. Sift the flour well.
  6. Sift dry ingredients together.
  7. Add alternately with water and vanilla, using low speed on mixer.
  8. Pour into prepared pans.
  9. Bake layers about 35 minutes; oblong 40-45 minutes.
  10. Cool.
  11. Frost with my Fudge Frosting.
