Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups flour , sifted
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 cup walnuts

Directions:

  1. Cream sugar, butter and flour; blend.
  2. Remove 1/2 cup of this mixture and reserve.
  3. Add soda to milk, then to sugar – flour mixture along with egg, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and vanilla; mix well. Add dates and nuts.
  4. Put in greased pan and sprinkle reserved sugar – butter – flour mixture over the top of batter.
  5. This is served as a frosting and not other is necessary.
  6. Bake at preheated oven, 375 F. for 30 – 35 minutes.
