Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 4 tbsp lard or 4 tbsp shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

Directions:

  1. Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  2. Cut in shortening.
  3. Make a well in the center and add water, a small amount at a time, to form a dough.
  4. Knead dough in bowl until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover and set aside for ten minutes.
  6. Form dough into egg-sized balls and flatten between palms.
  7. With rolling pin, roll each ball into a 6 inch circle, about 1/8 inch thick.
  8. Cook on preheated ungreased skillet over medium high heat, apprx. two min.
  9. Per side, until tortilla looks slightly speckled.
  10. Cover with a clean towel to keep warm and soft until served.
  11. The tortillas may be cooled and stored in plastic bags in the freezer for later use.
