Ingredients:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the apples, 3 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon; let stand for 1 hour.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and remaining sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
  4. Add vanilla.
  5. Combine flour and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and beat until smooth.
  6. Pour into a greased 9-in. x 5-in. loaf pan.
  7. Push apple slices vertically into batter, placing them close together.
  8. Bake at 325° for 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool for 10 minutes in pan before removing to a wire rack.
  10. Serve warm. .
