Ingredients:

  • note: can add cayenne pepper or herbs
  • i listed cook time at 45 minutes. this is up to your oven, and really more up to the cook's eye for crispness and browness

Directions:

  1. Turn oven on to 325 degrees
  2. Slice each hot dog bun into four slices
  3. You are going to DISCONNECT the bun,.cut where they are connected, then slice each half vertically, giving 4 vertical slender pieces for each bun)
  4. Meanwhile in large roasting pan or cookie sheet with edges, place 2 sticks butter, sprinkling garlic powder on all sides of the two sticks of butter
  5. Place pan with butter in oven until melted
  6. Remove pan from oven
  7. Place bread sticks in pan, rolling, sopping them around until they are fairly covered with butter. I usually lay some of the sticks on top of the ones that have absorbed more butter, and gently mash down ever so slightly
  8. Don't worry if some look more coated with butter than others
  9. After rolling them around for a minute or so, line them up, closely in pan, and may have to stack a few
  10. Place in oven until browned, turning occasionally
  11. The end result should be a nicely browned, very crisp, delicious breadstick
  12. NOTE: You can bake more slowly, for a longer time, but I would not bake them higher than 325 degrees, because they will not have the same crispness that results from lower oven temperature.
