Cutout Sugar Cookies With Butter Icing

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tbsp shortening
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. Thoroughly cream butter and sugar.
  2. Add egg and beat well.
  3. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk and vanilla and mix thoroughly.
  4. Roll on lightly floured surface and cut with floured cookie cutter.
  5. Bake on greased cookie sheets at 375 for 5 minutes or until firm. Cool dough before icing.
  6. For icing, cream all ingredients. Add enough milk to make icing spread easily. Add food coloring if desired.
