Ingredients:

  • 3 cup. flour
  • 1/3 cup. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 cup. (1 1/2 sticks) butter or margarine
  • 1 cup. buttermilk
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • for egg glaze
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  3. Add butter and mix with your fingertips or a fork to a coarse meal.
  4. Add buttermilk and mix until just combined.
  5. Transfer dough to a floured board and divide into 2 parts.
  6. Roll each to 3/4 inch thick rounds.
  7. Cut each round into 8 wedges and place slightly separated on a greased baking sheet.
  8. Mix egg, 2 1/2 tbsp. sugar, and 1 tsp. cinnamon in small bowl until thoroughly mixed.
  9. Using a pastry brush, brush a thin layer onto the wedges.
  10. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly browned.
  11. Serve warm.
