Ingredients:

  • 40 large marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup butter (use the real thing!)
  • enough green food coloring to tint the coating a nice holiday green

Directions:

  1. Use some extra butter to run around the inside of a large bowl (this will prevent the marshmallow coating from sticky so much to the bowl).
  2. Place the marshmallows and butter in the bowl.
  3. Microwave for 1 minute; stir (use a wooden spoon that you have also buttered very well).
  4. If the marshmallows and butter are not fully melted yet, continue to microwave for 15 seconds at a time until you can stir the mixture to a smooth consistency.
  5. Stir in the extract.
  6. Stir in the cereal, gently folding it into the melted marshmallows mixture until it is fully coated.
  7. Now, butter up your hands well!
  8. Lightly spray or butter a large piece of waxed paper.
  9. Drop the coated cereal by large spoonfuls (you should get about 20 – 24 spoonfuls from a batch).
  10. Using your buttered hands, poke a hole into the center of each spoonful and use your fingers to gently shape it into a wreath shape.
  11. When you have shaped all the wreaths, place 3 or 4 red hot candies around each wreath.
  12. Allow the tops of the wreaths to “dry” for an hour or more, then flip them over and allow the bottom side to dry. The buttered or sprayed waxed paper will prevent the wreaths from sticking to the paper and they should flip over easily.
  13. Once the wreaths are dry enough that you can pick them up without the marshmallow coating sticking to your fingers, store them in a container (laid flat - no overlapping) and with waxed paper between the layers.
  14. NOTE: For a party idea, make this into one giant wreath and let everyone cut off their piece.
