Chocolate Date Nut Squares

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • topping

Directions:

  1. Mix dates and first amount of baking soda together and pour boiling water over and stir. Set aside.
  2. Beat eggs together. Stir in margarine and sugar.
  3. Beat until well blended and stir in date mixture.
  4. Add flour, salt and second amount of baking soda and stir.
  5. Pour into greased 9x13 pan. It will be thin and runny.
  6. Stir topping ingredients together and sprinkle over batter.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool on rack and cut into squares.
