Directions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes, or until slightly thickened.
  2. If making a day ahead, cool, then refrigerate in a sealed container. When ready to brush on barbecued meat, warm sauce as cold sauce lowers the meat temperature slightly and slows down the cooking.
  3. * non-alcoholic version: 1/2 cup apple cider and 1/4 tsp vanilla extract.
