Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar, lightly packed
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup powdered milk
  • food coloring

Directions:

  1. Heat sugar, corn syrup and butter in saucepan. Stir constantly until it comes to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  2. In a large bowl, combine powdered sugar, salt and powdered milk. Add the hot mixture and stir until smooth.
  3. Grab two additional bowls and divide the mixture into three equal parts.. Stir a coup;e drops of yellow food coloring into one batch and mix thoroughly. Combine red and yellow to make orange for another batch. Leave the third batch white.
  4. Let the dough stand until cool and firm.
  5. Put on the gloves, which will protect your hands from staining as well as keeping your candy free of fingerprints.
  6. Grab a wad of each color of dough and ro;; into a rope 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch in diameter. Carefully push the three rolls together, using a rolling pin to slightly flatten the top.
  7. Cut candy in alternating diagonal lines to form candy corn shapes. Finish shaping individual kernals by hand until smooth.
  8. Candy can be refrigerated in layers of waxed paper to better maintain it's shape.
  9. Makes 1 3/4 pounds of candy.
