Broccoli With Seriously Cheesy Sauce

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Remove the tough part of the broccoli stems, usually the lower 3 to 4 inches.
  2. Cut the broccoli into 4 even portions.
  3. Bring a large pot of water to a boil with 1 teaspoon of salt.
  4. Add the broccoli and cook until tender, 7 or 8 minutes.
  5. Drain broccoli and transfer to a 2 quart casserole or serving dish.
  6. In a medium heavy saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  7. Add the flour, 1 teaspoon of salt and pepper.
  8. Cook, stirring constantly, with a large wooden spoon, for 2 minutes.
  9. Whisk in the milk and bring the sauce to a boil, whisking occasionally.
  10. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 2 minutes.
  11. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the cheese.
  12. Stir well.
  13. Pour the sauce over the broccoli and serve.
