Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tbsp. sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 5 tbsp plus 1 tsp cold butter
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven400*
  2. Sift together dry ingredients
  3. Cut in cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs
  4. Toss berries into dry ingredients to coat. If using frozen be very gentle as not to crush
  5. Beat egg in separate bowl
  6. Beat in buttermilk
  7. Make well in the center of dry add buttermilk mixture
  8. Combine until dough comes together again being gentle to keep from crushing the berries.
  9. Turn out on floured surface
  10. Flour top and pat into a thick round
  11. Cut into 8 wedges and place on ungreased baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush tops with a little cream which has a dash of vanilla added.
  12. Bake 20-25 minutes
