  1. In a large skillet, combine the berries, sugar, water, lemon juice, cinnamon and pepper. Bring to boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add butter and buttermilk; stir just until moistened. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto berry mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
  3. Cover tightly; simmer for 10-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in a dumpling comes out clean. Serve warm with cream if desired. Yield: 6-8 servings.
