  1. Melt the chocolate and shortening together.
  2. Add the sugar to the well beaten eggs; combine the chocolate and egg mixture.
  3. Sift flour; measure; add baking powder and salt; sift again.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture; add nuts and vanilla.
  5. Spread the dough evenly in a greased 8x8-inch square pan.
  6. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
  7. High altitude 35 minutes.
  8. When cool, cut into squares.
  9. If desired sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  10. Enjoy!
