Basic White Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 1/2 cups milk

Directions:

  1. Melt butter in a small saucepan; Stir in flour, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cook and stir over low heat until evenly combined and smooth, making a roux.
  3. After butter and flour are combined with no lumps, slowly add all of the milk.
  4. Stir constantly to evenly blend flour mixture and milk.
  5. Continue to cook and stir the mixture over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.
  6. Cook and stir for 1 minute more.
