Amish Homemade Bread

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 3/4 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water

Directions:

  1. Mix sugar, salt and 2 cups hot water in a large bowl.
  2. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water in small bowl.
  3. After yeast is dissolved, add to cooled water and sugar mixture.
  4. Add 3 cups flour and mix well.
  5. Let set 30 minutes.
  6. Knead in 3 1/2 to 4 cups flour until smooth and pliable.
  7. Grease bowl and dough and let rise until doubled.
  8. Punch down and let rise again.
  9. Shape into 2 loaves and let rise.
  10. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes.
