Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup butter beat well together
  • add 1/2 tsp soda, dissolved in
  • 1/2 cup sweet milk
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar , sifted with 2 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Mix, divide batter
  2. To1/2 add 2 Tbl molasses, 1 cup raisins, 1/4 tsp cloves,cinnamon and nutmeg,
  3. Put the dark part in a loaf tin and bake 20 minutes in a moderate oven-then very carefully pour light part over dark and bake 20 minutes more.
  4. I guess they probably prepared the pan and were using around a 350 oven
