Ingredients:

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup lentils
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Simmer lentils, water, salt, 1 TBSP butter, and 1/4 tsp. turmeric for 40 to 60 minutes. In a small pan, fry onion, in 1 TBSP butter until brown. Add 2 cloves, 1/2 tsp. cumin seeds and 2 cardamon pods and fry for a few second. Add tomato if desired (you can add two tomatoes worth - I only had one on me). Stir the spice mixture into the cooked lentils - cover to allow the seasonings to flavor the lentils. Stir and serve with rice or chapati.
