Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 20 prunes
  • 25 whole cloves
  • 1 (3-inch) stick cinnamon
  • 3 1/2 quarts water
  • 1/4 cup plus 3 tbsp quick-cooking tapioca
  • 1 quart grape juice
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Combine raisins, prunes, cloves, cinnamon, and water in a large Dutch oven; stir well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes or until fruit is tender.
  2. Stir in remaining ingredients, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Strain soup; discard fruit or save for use in another recipe. Soup may be served hot or cold.
